The Original Eco-loo has been designed as a urine separating waterless toilet for permanent bathroom installation in your off-grid, tiny home.
This original model has the same good looking body shape and function of the newer model. It differs in that it installs with a 50mm gap off the wall to allow full lifting of the toilet seat and urine separator for removal of the solids bucket, see pictures. Also, the fan can be mounted on the left or right of the toilet. Talk to us when you order.
The urine is simply piped into an external container, supplied by the owner. Any 10 or 20 litre plastic container can be used. The Original model does not have the internal urine bottle or electronic urine level monitor of the Classic model.
This model is often preferred for Tiny Homes or off-grid accommodation as it saves emptying the urine bottle every few days. There is also no worries if you have extra guests using the toilet.
If you’ll be running urine directly into an existing sewer or soak pit you’ll need to consult your local Council or registered plumber for advice.
It requires a 12volt power supply for the fan and a 40mm air extraction point. The long-life quiet fan continuously extracts air from the body of the toilet for a sweet smelling bathroom.
No specialist skill or tools are required for installation.
Our design eliminates common frustrations of other waterless toilets, giving you a hygienically clean bathroom toilet that looks amazing.
An Enzell Eco-loo can be used almost like a normal ‘water’ toilet but is designed so liquids and solids are separated during use. This prevents anaerobic bacterial activity which is what typically creates the smell. The continuously running, super quiet, fan means any odour is extracted outdoors – a big advantage for small bathrooms.
Everyone must sit during use to ensure urine is directed to the front area without splashing. The chamber flap must be opened for the solids container to be used.
Inside to the front you can see the flexible hose to take the urine away to an external container (supplied by owner), and to the back the square 15 litre container for solids. You line the solids container with a compostable plastic bag, available at most supermarkets, and put in a couple of handfuls of wood chip or coconut coir to absorb any excess moisture. (Purchase this from a garden centre or get wood chip from your nearest Menzshed, joinery factory or the like.) Usually there is no need to add more woodchips or coconut coir after each use. If you find moisture is building up between bag changes, a sprinkling of saw dust or coconut coir after each use will minimise this. Toilet paper can go into the solids bucket.
To keep the bowl clean, use a spray bottle filled with water, a teaspoon of vinegar, with a few drops of lavender oil if you prefer. Spray the bowl lightly before use. Use the lever on the side of the toilet to open the chamber flap when you are seated. Give the bowl a light spray again after use.
Enzell Eco-loos have been designed for easy installation. They come with a 12v extraction fan built in. This pulls air through the toilet and helps dehydrate the solids and remove odours. You will need a 12v DC power supply which could be direct from a house battery supply, or through a 240AC – 12VDC transformer if you are on mains supply. Transformers are available from any consumer electronics outlet. It is recommended that a 1amp fuse is fitted for protection.
The Eco-loo Original fan housing connects direct to standard 40mm PVC pipe and fittings. You can duct the air outside either through an external wall or the floor. There is no need to glue the fittings just push them together. Keep the length of 40mm pipe as short as possible. This reduces air resistance and ensures good extraction.
An insect screen cap is provided for the end of the extraction duct. It is very important to ensure this is fitted otherwise flies and other insects can enter the pipe. The cap should be in an accessible place so you can regularly remove any build-up of dust.
The urine waste hose is also a flexible hose that connects to a 40mm PVC pipe and can be ducted out through the floor or back of the unit to be piped to your external waste.
Pipe and fittings can be obtained from any hardware or plumbing outlet.
Once the air extract duct, 12v supply and urine waste has been connected securely, fix your Enzell Eco-loo to the floor using the 4 stainless steel screws supplied.
Full instructions are provided with your Enzell Eco-loo.
